Normally I'm a reluctant R&B/Gospel Music fan but this weekend I was reminded of the treasure in these songs as I was rifling though my old CD collection looking at how artists do their liner notes.
It's amazing how God can use imperfect people, like us, to bless others and to bring about His Kingdom. Isn't there a saying about how God can draw straight with our crooked lines?
Step by step reminds me of the philosophy I've taken on with my vocation journey since the summer: BABY STEPS
Small steps are all I can handle, I am like a little child that needs her daddy to hold her hands while she precariously steps forward...
When have you felt like taking things in "baby steps" was a good idea? Learning a new job? Choosing a career path? Moving to a new city? Moving on after a relationships' purpose has ended? Kicking a bad habit? Dealing with an illness?
Forgiving someone who's hurt you deeply?
Lord Jesus as we walk with you, as we learn to trust and rely on you again as little children - open our hearts to your voice, to your love and guidance as we continue to step forward each day hoping to draw ever closer to you, ever closer to the eternal union our souls long for.
Love the videos! I was never a big Whitney fan, but what a reminder of her musicality and great voice. I have been taking baby steps in freelance writing the past few years, and have been consciously trying to let God be in control instead of forcing things too much myself. He's surprised me by some unexpected open doors a number of times! And there's so much less pressure when we simply and prayerfully lay our plans at His feet. The challenge, of course, is discerning when to sit still and when to move forward - but it seems the more you truly desire to hand over the reins to Him, the easier it is to see His hand at work in your life. God bless you in your baby steps!
ReplyDeleteWhitney rocks! So great! And indeed both these tunes are treasures. Something about that mid 90's era RnB that always hits the spot! When have I felt like baby steps was a good idea? Pretty much all the time for me, I mean the first saying that comes to mind is "take one day at a time" which is really the only way I can live period anymore. Often us humans try and rush things and not take the proper small steps to develop or grow or mourn or get over a bad relationships or develop new ones or make major desicions or whatever challenge we face.We can't skip the pond , we have to walk those baby steps or we just fall in and have to fill in the gaps later.A mistake I have made many many times! It makes things harder in the long run! I have learned and am still learning that small but consistent steps are what get one to the finish line, well that paired with a healthy dose of prayer and a lot of help from Jesus and Mary, we all need to hold daddy's hands for sure! Because he is ultimately the only one who can lead us where we need to go! (Daddy being God of course haha) this is wisdom! It's the same wisdom found in those old stories like the tortoise and the hare, I use that story all the time when I teach overly eager young speed hungry men how to play drums. It's Very true!.... That "I love the lord"video was so well put together! Really nice!
ReplyDeleteJesus called Francis to follow in His footsteps. Big, small, baby? Just the right size?! Footsteps imply being able to stand tall and strong and movement with a goal in mind. To me our Loving God provides the inner resolve to neighbor-action to each of us. All of our lives we look for open hands that impel us to serve as we have been served. Thanks for the great posting, Chelsea!
ReplyDeleteVery nice :-) I liked your comment about drawing perfect lines with our crooked lines.
ReplyDeleteBaby steps ... I've been going through goal setting with my Professional Coach, and everything involves baby steps. We set our goals, then set time aside every day to make those goals happen, whether that be religeous goals, or if it's something as simple as planning a trip somewhere with friends. This year, I have a readling list of 8 books, I'm taking steps to read them, hopefully one day I have the opportunity to teach what I've learned!
Hello from the Windy City, Chicago by the way!
Love the Step by Step song BTW!
ReplyDeleteBrings a smile to my face!
